SUNNY PUDERT AND ZARA PFEIFER
WARE / RESISTANCE
Exhibition opening at Plateau Vienna, Sechsschimmelgasse 10
Thursday, 19 June, 6:00 PM
In Ware / Widerstand, Sunny Pudert and Zara Pfeifer explore the psychological and architectural dimensions of spaces of consumption. Between historic department stores and contemporary shopping malls, zones of density emerge—where visual regimes, discipline, and theatricality intersect. Inspired by Émile Zola’s The Ladies’ Paradise and Thomas Bernhard’s The Cellar. An Escape, a field unfolds in which seduction and control do not contradict, but rather depend on one another—manifesting in gestures of conformity and traces of dissent. The exhibition assembles fragments, remnants, symbolic architectures:
A curtain gestures toward thresholds that are more than spatial.
A locker becomes a miniature stage for the distribution of social roles.
The pin — a badge, a marker, perhaps also a thorn.
Amidst these: bodies as carriers of expectation, labor, uniformity.
Ware / Resistance considers consumption not solely as an economic practice, but as choreography—of the body adapting, distancing, dissolving. And within that, at times almost incidentally, the possibility of resistance.
